Visit to Taipei Building Material Design Center: Exploring Future Trends in the Industry

2024年10月18日

To enhance its expertise in building materials and gain insights into the latest industry developments, Share-information LTD. recently organized a visit to the Building Material Design Center located in Neihu, Taipei. The purpose of this visit was to explore innovative applications of building material technologies and future trends. What we gained from this visit will be transformed into practical business solutions to meet the increasingly diverse needs of the market.

During the event, we especially extend our gratitude to Chairman Mr. Wang Jen-Rong (Mr. Rick Wang) of the PEI DAH HSIN GROUP (PDH Group) for his tremendous support. Mr. Wang not only attended in person but also delivered an inspiring speech, offering an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities currently faced by the building materials industry. He emphasized the importance of innovative technologies and encouraged us to boldly explore and lead new directions in the industry amid intense market competition. His speech provided us with a clearer understanding and vision of future industry trends.

Applications and Challenges of Large-Format Tiles

In the current building materials market, the demand for large-format tiles has risen significantly, especially in mid-to-high-end residential and commercial spaces. Tiles measuring 80x80 cm and above are gradually becoming mainstream. These tiles not only enhance the overall visual appeal of spaces but also reduce seams, offering a smoother and more unified design aesthetic. By using large-format tiles, designers can create a more modern ambiance on walls and floors, meeting clients' dual requirements for aesthetics and functionality.

In addition, extra-large slab tiles (known as “Large-format thin tiles”) have become an emerging trend in the market, favored by designers and property owners for their lightweight nature and ultra-thin profile (typically around 6mm). These big slab tiles are not only light and easy to transport and install but also effectively reduce the load on the building and wooden structures, expanding their range of applications to include indoor and outdoor walls, floors, and various furniture surfaces. Their unique or luxurious textures enable seamless, cohesive visual effects in large commercial spaces and high-end residences, significantly enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of these areas.

However, the advantages of large-format thin tiles go beyond design effects, as they also significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions and environmental protection. First, the production process of large-format thin tiles incorporates energy-saving and carbon-reducing technologies, such as lowering power consumption in pressing machines and using gas kilns to save energy, thereby reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, advanced manufacturing equipment enables wastewater recycling and heat recovery, maximizing the use of water resources and energy throughout production. Waste materials from the process can also be recycled, further reducing the depletion of natural resources and minimizing the environmental impact.

Large-format thin tiles are also often used as substitutes for natural stone, which not only reduces the need for quarrying natural stone—thereby lowering the risk of ecological damage—but also offers a lighter, more manageable construction material. Additionally, across the entire lifecycle—from transportation and processing to post-removal waste management—large-format tiles effectively reduce carbon emissions. Due to their lighter weight, they consume less energy during transport, and their waste is easier to handle after processing and removal, ultimately reducing environmental pollution and the carbon footprint.

Therefore, Share-Information LTD. is making every effort to promote large-format thin tile installation services, offering both materials and installation to contribute to carbon reduction efforts for the planet. At the same time, Share-Information LTD. is actively advancing its digital transformation by integrating online and offline information systems. In the future, through Share-Information LTD. information platform, customers will be able to search quickly and conveniently for a variety of large-format thin tile application materials that feature rich colors and elegant textures. We will also offer a range of promotional plans, joining hands with our clients to align with global ESG trends, work toward carbon reduction goals, and collectively create a better environment.

Innovations in Tile Installation Technology

Another key focus of this visit was exploring raising floor and ventilated wall installation techniques for thick tiles (20mm tiles). Raising floor installation is widely used in flooring applications, primarily achieved by placing support pedestals beneath the thick tiles to improve drainage efficiency and reduce ground moisture issues. This design effectively prevents water retention, enhances floor ventilation, and extends the lifespan of materials and waterproofing works. Additionally, the raising floor installation technique provides excellent insulation, creating a more comfortable indoor environment and facilitating future maintenance, meeting the current market demand for sustainable development.

On the other hand, the ventilated wall installation technique plays a crucial role in wall construction. This technology significantly enhances the stability of tiles on walls, particularly for exterior wall applications. With excellent seismic performance, effective insulation, and moisture drainage capabilities, as well as its contribution to energy savings and carbon reduction in indoor air conditioning, this technique is especially suitable for earthquake-prone regions like Taiwan. By employing this technology, not only can the safety of buildings be ensured, but it also enhances their overall durability and aesthetic appeal, which is essential for meeting the demands of modern architecture.

Furthermore, the ventilated wall installation technique reduces the need for large amounts of adhesives during the installation process, thereby decreasing the use of chemicals and the associated carbon emissions, which helps to lessen the environmental impact of construction. Due to its removable and reusable nature, the ventilated wall system also makes it easier to recycle and reuse tiles throughout the building's lifecycle, thus reducing construction waste and enhancing material sustainability. These features make the ventilated wall installation technique an important choice for modern architecture in terms of environmental protection and sustainable development.

The Application and Benefits of Lamett SPC Materials

During this visit, Lamett SPC flooring was also specifically introduced. This environmentally friendly flooring material, made from calcium carbonate and PVC, has gained widespread recognition in the market for its formaldehyde-free, phthalate-free, and heavy metal-free properties. Since 1985, Lamett has been at the forefront of flooring design and innovation in Europe, dedicated to providing consumers with healthy and sustainable options. The click-lock installation system of SPC materials simplifies the installation process, making installation and replacement easy and efficient. According to market research, the demand for SPC materials continues to grow in the Asian region, especially in commercial spaces and residential projects that require flexible renovations, making SPC an ideal choice. This material not only offers exceptional durability and environmental benefits but also provides high-quality flooring solutions for modern architecture, allowing consumers to fully enjoy every moment of their lives.

Appreciation for International Partnerships and Future Outlook

We would like to extend our special gratitude to important partner “PIF Capital” in Singapore, for their strong support, particularly to Chairman Jonathan Por and Co-Founder Grace Lim. On the day of the visit, the PIF team was actively engaged and expressed their high regard for future collaborations. Starting next year, both parties will work together to promote cross-national entrepreneur exchange activities in Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and other regions, regularly inviting entrepreneurs to visit Taiwan. At that time, Share-Information LTD. will be responsible for arranging professional visits and hosting seminars to facilitate technical sharing and market expansion between the two parties. Last week's visit was a preliminary preparation for future cooperation, laying a solid foundation for a long-term and robust partnership.

Industry Challenges and Opportunities

With the rapid development of the building materials market, the challenges faced by the industry are also increasing. According to research, Taiwan's building materials industry must strengthen training and skills enhancement to meet future demands amid intensifying competition and a shortage of skilled workers. In this context, prioritizing continuing education and training will become a key strategy for enhancing competitiveness.

In the face of these challenges, companies in the industry must actively take measures to improve their market positions, including promoting technological innovation, enhancing product quality, and expanding market channels. Additionally, with the rise of digital and smart technologies, the future of the building materials industry will present more opportunities, allowing companies to improve construction efficiency and material management by integrating smart technology.
